Just a few weeks after announcing plans to merge with Zone3, Sphere Media has secured a greenlight from four Canadian broadcasters for its new 2D-animated series By Bunny.

TVOKids, Radio-Canada, TFO and Knowledge Kids banded together to commission the 52 x six-minute toon about a rabbit who turns animal facts into entertaining stories. Canadian kids book author Judith Henderson and the show’s head writer Anne-Marie Perrotta created this series concept, which is aimed at four- to seven-year-olds.

“We’re proud to support a project that originated in Canada and that celebrates Canadian creativity,” says Kirsten Hurd, commissioning editor for TVOKids. “In today’s global market, developing homegrown IPs is no small feat.”

Sphere Animation started production on By Bunny a few days ago, and delivery is scheduled for late 2027. Ireland’s Telegael will take the lead on post-production and voice recording, while Mesmor Studios and Anaganga Pictures in India manage the storyboarding and animation.

ZDF Studios is already on board to handle European distribution, and Bejuba! Entertainment will sell the series everywhere else, excluding Canada, India and Ireland.

Sphere Media has been successful in getting several kids shows made in Canada, including Project Rube for TVOKids. And its latest kids series Burps, Butts and Bones premiered on the pubcaster a couple of weeks ago.
